What is the meaning of Ki?
In Chinese cosmological and metaphysical thought, the chi plays an important role. It is considered to be the spirit, or breath of life, in living creatures, or the air or ether filling the sky and the surrounding universe. Most importantly, it denotes the basic substance of all creation (ki or qi are alternate spellings of chi).
In both Chinese and Japanese cultures, the five basic material forces are water, fire, wood, metal and earth. The interaction of these five elements generates the transformation of a myriad of things which produce and reproduce, resulting in unending change. Thus, with such an understanding, the world is not an illusionary product of the mind but a clear manifestation of this primal material-force (chi). It is a constant process of change, integrating to form human beings and the other creatures of the world, disintegrating again to return to life.
The Chinese philosophers believed that "man's task in the world is to comprehend this process of change and harmonize his action with it." Such an understanding is the basis of our own philosophy at Ki Nature et Santé. We are an integrated health centre, part of the vital force in alternative health care.
History of Ki
Ki Nature & Santé was founded by a Montreal pharmacist, Juan Wong, L.Ph. Born in Peru and a graduate of the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Mr. Wong is a licensed member of the Quebec Pharmacist Association since 1974. In 1995, he became a Member of the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA). From 1998-2000 and again in 2005, Mr. Wong acted as CHFA director for Quebec.
Realizing that there was a need for a natural pharmacy, Mr. Wong developed a concept to serve a growing tendency in the community toward the use of botanical and nutritional medicine. His 20 years of experience as a pharmacist has helped him understand the need for awareness and education in the use of medication, whether the information is provided over the counter or in private consultation. The concept was to build an integrated health center, offering holistic healing (care for the mind, body and soul). This personalized service is available due to our staff, entirely composed of health professionals, all certified and accredited.
In 1995, Ki Nature & Santé opened its first doors in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. The concept developed by Mr. Wong was warmly welcomed and appreciated by all who experienced healing at Ki. Success soon followed and the need for expansion was becoming evident. In the summer of 1997, with the help of his brother-in-law, Ed Koc, Mr. Wong replicated the "Ki Concept" in downtown Montreal, with the addition of improved facilities, including private offices to offer services with different specialized therapists. Today, both locations offer private consultations as well as body care treatments as part of our integrated health center.
Before long, Ki Nature & Santé had become a leader in the industry, carrying products that are only available to licensed practitioners. To date, it has enlarged its list of specialized items to more than 10,000 different products, including a variety of homeopathic remedies, nutraceutical supplements, vitamins and minerals, sports nutrition, aromatherapy and essential oils, beauty and body care products, books and audio.
Today, Ki Nature et Santé remains a family operated business. A new generation has joined the team.
